What Is Tot Amazon?
What is the Tot Requirement for Amazon employees?
All Amazon employees who work in Amazon warehouses must be registered with the TOT Alert System. This may affect workers at Amazon Fulfillment Centers. This requirement might not be applicable to Amazon's higher-level employees.
This is a tool used by Amazon to keep track of their employee's performance, and it's mandatory for all workers who work at Amazon warehouses to be enrolled in it. The TOT Alert system tracks an employee's movements while on the job. It also records how long they take to complete tasks.
Personal Tragedy
Tot is aware that the Goldman Prize spotlight could have serious consequences for his personal safety. However, he appeared unfazed. "He already knows that he will lose," he stated. Lote 9 won both its case at the Constitutional Court in 2011 and took the strategic decision to settle and protect the M1 region. In 2012, Tot’s son Edin Lenel Tot sub was fatally injured in what seemed to be an intentional attack.
Wilfrido Tot sub was present when his brother died. On October 1, 2012, they boarded the 1 a.m. bus to Guatemala City and settled in to get some sleep. They were unaware that multiple assailants, including those armed with guns, boarded the bus at various points, even the point of departure, El Estor. It was all normal until the bus approached the capital.
Suddenly, a gunman stood up, yelled, "this is a robbery," and said they'd shoot anyone who moved, Wilfrido Tot Sub told Mongabay. He said that no more words were spoken, no one moved and the attackers immediately started shooting the brothers. Wilfrido fell to the ground, hiding under the seat. He assumed that his brother had done the same, but didn't notice him.
He pointed to his side and said: "I was dead because they touched me there." The assailants then said, "the asshole is dead," before getting off the bus.
No one was robbed.
Wilfrido suffered one gunshot to the chest and had to undergo surgery. His brother, Edin Leonel Tot Sub received multiple gunshots to the torso and died instantly. He was 29 years old at the time and had three young children.
Wilfrido still has visible scars. The stitches are visible along a long and curved incision from collarbone-to-collarbone. He lifts up his shirt to show the others on his upper abdomen and shoulder. Doctors told him that they could not safely remove the gunshot. He felt some discomfort when he was in a hammock with his little daughter laying on his chest over the bullet, but it hasn't otherwise bothered him, he said. What does bother him is that the case remains unsolved.
Nothing has happened to date. "It's like an animal has died," said he. "Here in Guatemala we're really [screwed] in cases like these, of killings. "They're never investigated."
Wilfrido is firmly convinced that he and his brother were shot because of their father's leadership in the battle for Lote 9's land rights, and he's not alone. He is happy that his father has been honored for all the years he suffered and struggled.
"He deserves it," said Wilfrido. "He's fighting for a community."
Amazon Tot Scheduling: Is it Fair?
Amazon has a reputation for enforcing a rigid code of conduct for its workers. Since Amazon's TOT system restricts toilet breaks and other vital breaks, many current and former employees view it as an infringement on their personal freedoms.
The TOT method has also been mocked by news organizations and other media sources throughout the years, and concerns have been made regarding Amazon's lack of care for other employees.
It's reasonable to believe that Amazon still does not schedule its TOT breaks equally.

What Are Amazon'S Tot Policy Guidelines?
The basic principle of the TOT system is that employees must produce at a certain rate. If employees fail to wrap things over an extended period of time, the system will send them alerts.
Amazon's productivity will fluctuate according to the number of employees and the volume of packages coming each day.
So, Amazon's rules on how often employees may take unplanned breaks, such as going to the bathroom, may change on a daily basis.
In order to prevent receiving TOT notifications, Amazon warehouse workers are recommended to check the TOT system with their supervisor on a regular basis to ensure that they are aware of the targeted productivity rates.
